Worms Jewish Cemetery “Holy Sand” – The power of memory

The old Jewish Cemetery Worms (“Holy Sand”) is a very special place. You may visit on a foggy winter’s day or when the trees are in full bloom, the atmosphere of the cemetery is one of a kind. People come from all over the world to visit the jewish scholars, that were buried here. It is the oldest jewish cemetery preserved in-situ in Europe. Unlike in the Jewish Cemetery Mainz, many graves here have never been destroyed. Some tombstones date back to the year 1058/59. You may find those in the oldest part in the south of the cemetery.

How do we deal with death? You may ponder this question here, at the Jewish Cemetery Worms. Where people have laid their loved ones to rest since the Middle Ages.
